The early 80's were the heyday of catalog showrooms like Service Merchandise. In addition to having horrible showrooms full of broken examples of the products they sold, these stores also produced (appropriately enough) catalogs. Thousands of children wasted countless hours each perusing these catalogs in fine detal, carefully circling items they wanted but would never receive. In a testament to the relevance of my office library, I found one such catalog (
Consumer's Distributing and Catalog Showrooms) on the shelf a few days ago. Thus, a new periodic feature. My favorite part is the gold watch zooming through space.
